Title; “Towards Sustainable Water Supply System in Urbanizing Myanmar’’

Project Area Background

My pilot area is Nyaungdon Township, Maubin District in the Ayeyarwaddy Division of Myanmar. Current population in Nyaungdon Township is over 2 lacks from 2014 Census. It is 69km far away from Yangon City. In this township area, their main water resource is Kokkowa River.

There may be unsustainable water supply system for urbanization in Myanmar which results in water shortage and water conflicts so that loss of confidence for public. According to analysis, the causes have been identified as insufficient water supply system. This is due to lack of not only water management but also in technology. Besides population growth leads to more utilization water in future with the possibility of depending water conflicts among different user groups. The projects objective is sustainable water supply system for urbanization by means of better management in water supply system, training in water utilities between government sector and villages’ communities and development in water network system. The benefits to be sustainable water supply for urbanization and confidence restored to different user groups and reduction in economic loss.
